The Adamawa State Police Command has paraded seven suspected members of a criminal gang known as ‘Shila Boys’. Two of the seven suspects were said to have been arrested in connection with theft during the second-term declaration bid of the state Governor, Mohammed Jibrilla.

The Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Yerima, who spoke to journalists at the state command headquarters, said two of the suspects, Sadiq Idris, 19, and Alamin Mohammed, 18, who confessed to committing the alleged offence, would be charged to court for prosecution along with five others arrested by police.

The command has also initated dialogue among stakeholders of the clash between farmers and herdsmen to stem the crisis in the state. Yerima, who spoke at a meeting convened to tackle the crisis between farmers and herdsmen in Yola, said the crisis, if allowed to linger, had the potential of creating disunity.

He said, “The rising trend of herders-farmers clashes and persistent attacks on villages by bandits in some parts of the state, especially in Numan, Demsa, Lamurde and Girei, have occupied the attention of the Nigeria Police, the affected local governments and the state as a whole. This development has claimed the lives of innocent Nigerians, young and old, and led to the destruction of property resulting in a colossal loss to the state and almost setting the state on the path of disunity.”
